Pokes take on UNI in the MWC/MVC Challenge

Wyoming Cowboys at Northern Iowa Panthers
10/23/3009
6:05 PM MST

The Pokes have packed their bags and are heading to Cedar Rapids, IA to take on a talented Northern Iowa squad. The Panthers are sitting at 8-1 with their only loss coming to DePaul in the second game of the season. The two teams met last year in Casper with Wyoming coming out on top 74-65.

On the year the Panthers have wins over Denver, East Carolina, Boston College, Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Iowa, Siena and North Dakota. Wyoming played Denver earlier in the year and lost 8-77. Last year Northern Iowa won the Missouri Valley and advanced to the NCAA tournament before losing to Purdue in the first round.

The Panthers are led by Junior Guard Kwadzo Ahelegbe who is averaging 15.6 points 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists this season and positioning himself as a favorite for MVC player of the year. Two other players Adam Koch (14.1) and Adam Egelseder (11.1) score in double digits and three are shooting above 50% from the field this season. Egelseder is 7'0 and leads the team with nearly 8 rebounds a game.

Wyoming needs to stick to their bread and butter if they want to hang with the Panthers. Being aggressive and getting to the free throw line. The Cowboys lead the nation in free throws made with 267. The Cowboys are shooting a Mountain West worst 22% as a team from behind the arc compared to 40% for the Panthers.

Should a quality game and give the Cowboys another good challenge as they start to wind down their non-conference schedule.
