Cowboys top Coyotes in Laramie

Smith led all scorers with 25

The Cowboys shook off a tough loss at Tennessee earlier in the week and used that lesson to take down the visiting South Dakota State Coyotes 86-74 Sunday night.

This was slightly different game for the Pokes as they made a season high 7 three pointers and only 17 free throw attempts. The Pokes still only shot 28% from 3pt land but that is actually a step up for this team.

Afam Muojeke had 17 points to lead the Cowboys and Djibril Thiam contributed 15. Both players grabbed a game high seven rebounds. Wyoming used some impressive defense in the paint to swat 10 Coyotes shots. Thiam and Boubacar Sylla each three blocks a piece. South Dakota failed to block any Wyoming shots.

Steve Smith was hit all night for the Coyotes as he lead all scorers with 25 points including 5 of 6 three point shooting. The former Creighton Bluejay had only one game in double digit scoring coming into this game.

On Wednesday the Cowboys travel to Northern Iowa face a talented Missouri Valley opponent. The Panthers are 8-1 and contenders for the Mo. Valley title.

AWARDS

Cowboy Joe: Amath M'Baye played in his first game of the year. The 6'9 200 lb Forward was kept out while the NCAA investigated his eligibility due to playing on a team that might have had a profesional player on their roster. M'Baye will add some much needed depth to the Cowboy Front court. Had 5 points in 14 minutes.

Cowboy Low: Ryan Dermody was 1 for 5 from the field for just three points in 19 minutes.

Cowboy Foe: Steve Smith lit the Pokes up for 25 points and added 6 rebounds.
