Cowboy hoops earn first win

After another slow start the Cowboys finally put things together and got their first win of the young season in a 120-73 victory over NAIA Peru State. The Cowboys evened their record at 1-1 for the year.

Afam Muojeke led the way with 26 points for the Pokes who outscored the Bobcats 67-33 in the second half. Thomas Manzano added 19. The Cowboys had five players score in double figures. Djibril Thiam put up 18/7 to lead the Cowboys in rebounding. Jaydee Luster had fine game dishing out 11 assists anf grabbing five steals with no turnovers.

Wyoming went with a full court press defense that forced a staggering 34 turnovers. As a team the Cowboys got easy looks at the basket and shot 61% from the field.

The outcome of the game really isn't a big surpise considering the competition: a NAIA D2 team. The second consecutive slow start is discouraging. If this becomes a trend the Pokes could be in trouble this season. Thanks to the high scoring Coach Schroyer gave 10 players game time. Getting the youngsters some floor time should help down the road. Adam Waddell appears to be recovered from his minor surgery as he put up 9 points in 9 minutes.

Marshall Kelly put up 16 points to lead Peru State.

The Cowboys will be action again on Saturday when they host the Boise State Broncos at 7PM. Cowboy fans who attend the. Wyoming-TCU football game Saturday should stick around for the basketball game as well.
