Cowboys can't contain Denver in 80-77 loss

Coming out of the gates the Cowboys were aggressive and getting to the free throw line tonight against the University of Denver. The Pioneers struggled with their shooting early and the Cowboys held a 44-34 halftime lead.

The Pioneers (3-1) must have had a heck of a halftime speech as they came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half. Nate Rohnert took over and led the Pioneers to 80-77 victory. Rohnert was a one man wrecking crew putting up a season high 32 points. Three other Pioneers scored in double digits.

Afam Muojeke led the Cowboys with 20 points but left the game with 6:47 remaining after his injuring his leg on a layup. AJ Davis kept the Cowboys by scoring 9 points in a row and keeping the Cowboys within one point with 76 seconds remaining.

The Cowboys are now 2-2 on the season and will be in action this weekend when they host the World Vision Classic. They will face Monmouth, Hampton and Pepperdine starting on Friday and running through Sunday.

Hopefully Muojeke isn't injured seriously and will return this weekend. Getting Jaydee Luster fully back would be key as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury.

Losing this one hurts after playing so well in the first half. Denver is one of the best shooting teams in the nation and it was just a matter of time before their shots started dropping. The Cowboys let Denver control the pace of the game the second half and it cost them the game. If Wyoming had continued to attack the basket they probably would have gotten the W.
