TCU hit the big shots down the stretch and grabbed a 76-68 victory on the road over Wyoming. This is the fifth loss in a row for the Cowboys (9-16, 2-9) who are running out of excuses this season. The Horned Frogs (12-14, 4-7) have a chance to move up in the conference standings as they try and catch up with Utah for sixth place in the Mountain West.

Freshman Nikola Cerina had the best game of his career and second strong performance in a row. The 21 point and seven rebound effort led the Horned Frogs and was vital when bigman Zvonko Buljan fouled out in just 14 minutes. Ronnie Moss was five for nine from the field for 15 points. As a team the Horned Frogs hit 50% of their shots and also connected eight three pointers on seventeen attempts.

Desmar Jackson led all scorers with 22 while tying his career high. Amath M'Baye had 14 points off the bench. Djibril Thiam and Arthur Bouedo both scored 10 points. The Pokes were aggressive and went to the free throw line 35 times connecting on 27 shots a 77% average. Adam Waddell sat out most of the second half due to lingering ankle and knee pain, he finished with six points and two rebounds in 19 minutes.

Next up the Cowboys travel to New Mexico on Wednesday while TCU hosts San Diego State on Tuesday.

Two of the Mountain West's underachieving programs will meet on Saturday looking to spark their team at the right moment. With six games remaining the regular season chances for wins are shrinking quickly for TCU and Wyoming.

TCU (11-14, 3-7) has lost five of their last six while Wyoming (9-15, 2-8) has lost seven of eight. When these two teams met a month ago in Fort Worth the Horned Frogs pulled out a hard fought 62-59 victory. A lot has changed for the Cowboys during that time and this is a much different Cowboy squad.

Leading scorer Afam Muojeke is done for the season and Freshman Desmar Jackson has stepped up to provide a spark for the Cowboys. With the rise of Jackson the Cowboys saw their third leading scorer A.J. Davis leave the team after his minutes shrunk quickly. Adam Waddell is the most succesful bigman for the Pokes and saved his best performances for the conference games.

TCU has two road victories this season: SMU and Air Force. Beating Air Force isn't that impressive but it is certainly better than what Wyoming managed to do against the Falcons. Ronnie "Tuffy" Moss is the free shooting guard that leads TCU with 14 points a game. The Croatian connection of Zvonko Buljan and Edvinas Ruzgas are also averaging double digits in scoring. Buljan is the second leading rebounder in the Mountain West with nearly nine boards a game. Only Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State has been more productive on rebounds this year.

Will TCU sweep the series or will Wyoming end their losing streak? I say Wyoming will win this one mainly due to the home court advantage of the elevation. San Diego State and TCU are the only Mountain West schools that aren't at elevation and both teams struggle with the adjustment. San Diego State is a much better program than TCU and they lost in Laramie earlier this year.

Lightning doesn't strike twice for Pokes

Edvinas Ruzgas was on fire for TCU

Wyoming certainly had opportunities tonight but in the end TCU defended their home court and came away with a 62-59 win. The Horned Frogs improve to 9-8 (2-1) while Wyoming drops below .500 once again and sits at 8-9 (1-2). TCU led the entire first half and took a 36-30 advantage to the locker room. Led by Afam Muojeke the Pokes picked up their game and took a 40-39 lead with 13:50 remaining. The next eight minutes were back and forth and Wyoming held a 52-50 lead with 5:38 left.

Down the stretch Wyoming just couldn't find the magic that they used on Saturday night to slay the San Diego Aztecs. TCU jumped out to a five point lead and the Pokes slowly chipped away. In the final minute Wyoming took six shots but only hit one as TCU held on for the three point win.

This was not the prettiest of games as both teams shot below 40% from the field. Ronnie Moss showed no restraint as he unleashed 18 shots but sunk only three - all three pointers. Five free throws gave Moss 14 points for the game. Edvinas Ruzgas was impressive for the Horned Frogs totaling 22 points and hitting four treys. Bigman Zvonko Buljan pulled down a game high 12 boards.

Only two Pokes had much success shooting the ball: Muojeke put a game high 24 while Adam Waddell had 15 points plus eight rebounds. Waddell played nearly the entire for a short two minute break. Wyoming had 15 turnovers which turned into 20 points for TCU. No Cowboy had more than two turnovers. Improvement from 3pt range was shown again as Wyoming hit 6 of 14 (42%) but struggled from the charity stripe with a 15 of 24 (62%) performance.

The Pokes remain winless on the road this season. Wyoming heads back home and will host the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday at 1:30pm mst. Saturday's game is a "white out game" where everyone is encourage to wear plain white t shirts.

Cowboy Joe: Adam Waddell played nearly the entire game and put 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Cowboy Low: It was bound to happen sooner or later. Arthur Bouedo had an off night going 0-7 for the game. Did play tough however and added two rebounds and three assists.

Cowboy Foe: Edvinas Ruzgas hit four treys on his way to 22 points. Also grabbed 5 boards.

The Wyoming Cowboys are coming off their most impressive win season, a come behind victory over San Diego State last Saturday. Meanwhile the Horned Frogs of TCU got embarrassed on their trip to Salt Lake City in a 65-45 loss to the Utes. Both teams come in with records 8-8 for the season and 1-1 in the Mountain West. So looks this should be a fairly even match up.

The Pokes have two solid wins over Northern Colorado and San Diego State while TCU has cherry picked weaker opponents for most of their victories. If Wyoming wants to get their record above .500 for the first in a month they will need the continued effort of Afam Muojeke and Jaydee Luster. Muojeke is coming off a 30 point performance and looks to be improving his shot selection. Luster shied away from shooting the ball for most of the season but has found his stroke from long range recently. Arthur Boeudo has been impressive in his first two games this season.

TCU has a force with Senior F Zvonko Buljan, the Croation is averaging over 14 points and 9 rebounds a game. Despite his size at 6-9 235lbs Buljan has only a single block this year. Wyoming has had trouble with rebounding this year and Buljan can give TCU a big advantage in the paint. Sophomore G Ronnie Moss hails from Fort Worth and has yet to find a spot on the court where he isn't willing to shoot one up. Moss averages 14 points and 6 assists a game while leading the team in shot attempts despite hitting only 38%. He is a threat from long range as he averages 5 attempts from 3pt land and hits two a game. Edvinas Ruzgas is another Croatian at TCU and like Moss is a threat to sink a three.

With Wyoming's full court press and TCU's "huck a shot" mentatility this could be an interesting game to watch.

These teams split the series last year with the home team winning both times.

Austyn Carta-Samuels named Mountain West Freshman of the Year. TCU sweeps the rest of the individual awards. ACS was named Player of the Week and certainly deserves this honor.

Cowboys compete early but lose 45-10 to TCU

Can anyone or any team stop TCU you this year? Not likely. The Horned Frogs improved to 11-0 for the first time in 71 years and are keeping the National title hopes alive with a 45-10 over the Wyoming Cowboys on the road. To complete their perfect season TCU will just need a victory next week over a New Mexico team that has lost their first 10 games.

The Cowboys kept things close for most of the first half and the game was was tied 10-10 at one point. But just as fast as Wyoming thought they had an upset on their hands TCU took back the lead with a 81 yard kickoff return by Greg McCoy to make the score 17-10. After that TCU never looked back and went on to score 28 unanswered points.

This wasn't as crisp a victory as TCU was looking but it was probably good enough to keep them in the #4 BCS spot. Losing three fumbles is uncharacteristic of the Horned Frogs and one was returned by Safety Chris Prosinski for the Cowboys lone touchdown. Andy Dalton was 10 of 19 for 170 yards and a touchdown but also intercepted once. Dalton also added 90 yards rushing to give him 260 total yards for the game.

The ground game was dominate for the Horned Frogs who put 358 yards rushing. Matther Tucker had 134 yards on only 12 carries. Tucker and Joseph Turner each had two touchdowns a piece.

Wyoming could do nothing with all the ball all game. QB Austyn Carta-Samuels was 4 of ten for only 84 yards. He was then replaced by Robert Benjamin who also struggled and went 2 for 5 and just 11 yards. Karsteen Sween the came in to try his luck to jump start the offense and went 0 for 4. David Leonard had his longer catch of the season for 43 yards and give him 64 receptions on the year.

The TCU defense was stout and made things rough all game long for the Cowboys. Though only getting one sack on the day they kept constant pressure on QB and bottled up the running game. The Cowboys rushed 36 times for 84 yards an average of 2.3 yards per rush. The Horned frogs allowed the Cowboys only 58 total yards in the second half.

Beating Wyoming should help TCU with the computers. Wyoming has one of the toughest schedules in the nation with losses to ranked teams: Texas, BYU and Utah. Texas played in Laramie this season and were actually down 10-6 at one point before prevailing 41-10.

It would have been great to see this game be closer but with the team the Cowboys have right now they've shown they just can't compete with big time programs yet. Playing against this level of competition will be great down the road though as all the freshman are getting valuable experience. Keeping things close in the first half like we did against Texas was nice to see. Definetly better than the BYU loss which had no redeeming qualities.

Next week: TCU host New Mexico and Wyoming travels to Colorado State for the Border War. Wyoming needs a victory over the rival Rams to become bowl eligible.

No more snow

Earlier forecasts had the the temprature on Saturday dipping down into the 30's and snow in the forecast for Saturday. Well the weather looks to be improving and Saturday should be much warmer with no chance of snow.

Current predicitions say game time temp should be 44 with with partly cloudy skies.

TCU struggled in the cold and snow at Air Force earlier in the year and similar conditions could helped the Cowboys slow down the Horned Frogs.

At least we still 7220 feet of elevation in our favor.

#4 TCU comes to Laramie

The Horned Frog express rolls into Laramie, WY on Saturday looking for their 11th win this season. TCU (10-0) will put their perfect record on the line as they face a young and dangerous Wyoming Cowboys (5-5) squad. Currently #4 in the BCS the Horned Frogs will need another quality win plus a loss or two by one of the teams ranked ahead of them if they hope to have a shot at playing the National title game.

Coming off a stellar 55-28 victory over Utah last week the Horned Frogs are operating on all cylinders. Boasting one of the top defenses in the nation and led by DE Jerry Hughes the Horned Frogs wreak havoc on opposing teams QB's. Andy Dalton leads an offense that has been getting better and better each week. Their balanced attack put up 549 yards on a Utah defense that had been fairly stingy in the previous weeks.

The Wyoming Cowboys are coming off their most impressive victory of the season last week. Down 27-6 after three quarters the Cowboys put 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win 30-27 and keep their bowl chances alive. Jekyll and Hyde is a great way to describe the Cowboys offense this year. After scoring at least 30 points in three consecutive victories earlier in the season the Pokes then managed only 10 total points in three consecutive losses.

TCU has scored in 213 cosecutive games - longest in the nation.

Wyoming
has been shutout three times this year.

Freshman QB Austyn Carta-Samuels has earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors three times this year. The Cowboys have switched to a spread offense this year after bringing in new Coach Dave Christensen. WR David Leonard has stepped up as big time possesion reciever this year and has 63 catches for 533 yards.

The Horned Frogs can really do it all: Offense, Defense and Special teams.

Andy Dalton has passed for over 2,000 yards this season with 17 TD's and only 4 interceptions. He also averages nearly 40 yards rushing a game.

TCU has four players with over 380 yards rushing this season. Joseph Turner gets the most carries: 120 for 622 yards and nine touchdowns. Freshman Edward Wesley has 598 yards and put up 120 against the Utes. Matthew Tucker adds 471 yards and six touchdowns to the mix.

Dalton loves to the spread the ball around and three recievers have 25 or more catches this year: Jimmy Young (25 for 405), Jeremy Kerley (33 for 370) and Bart Johnson (25 for 343). Kerley is a speedster and one of the most dangerous returnmen in the NCAA. He averages nearly 15 yards per punt return and has taken two back for scores.

Everything points towards an easy TCU victory but a couple factors could make this game closer then expected: elevation and weather.

The last time the Horned Frogs played in Laramie two years ago they lost 21-24. Coming from Fort Worth to 7220 feet can be a big shock to the system.

In the TCU's closest victory they beat Air Force 20-17 in Colorado Springs. That weekend a huge snowstorm hit the front range and game time tempratures were in the teens. TCU had a hard time scoring on a stout Air Force defense and the weather conditions certainly didn't help.

There is snow in the forecast for this weekend in Laramie but tempratures should be in the mid 30's so things won't be as cold as the Air Force game.

ESPN Game Day heads to TCU

#4 TCU hosts #16 Utah this Saturday and ESPN College Game Day will be there for the ride. Well they will be there before the game (game is actually shown on CBS College). This is the third time this season (and second time in a row) that ESPN has followed a been to a Mountain West game. This ties them with the Big 12 for most appearances this season.

TCU needs to win by a decent margin if they hope to keep their BCS buster hopes alive. An impressive win followed by some key losses by other teams may be enough to get the Horned Frogs in the title game. That is a very slim chance but you never know what will happen in college football.

Hopefully BYU will blow out the Lobos in a similar fashion to the win over the Cowboys last weekend. The Lobos have been playing better as of late but this one shouldn't be close. Max Hall should have a field day throwing against the New Mexico Secondary.

UNLV heads to Air Force

The Rebels still have a bowl berth possibility but by only the thinnest of margins. The Rebels (4-6) need to upset the Falcons (6-4) at home this week and then beat San Diego State in their final regular season game on November 28th. The Falcons have a stingy defense and will give UNLV problems. The triple option of AF should enjoy working against the Rebels 111th ranked run defense.

TCU @ BYU

This was the game of the week in College Football. It was a great game unless you are a BYU fan. The Horned Frogs jumped out a 21-0 lead and never looked back. The only bad news is that TCU beat BYU so bad in the 38-7 win that it knocked the Cougars out of the Top 25 rankings. The win vaulted the Froggies to #6 in the BCS standings.

San Diego State @ CSU

A tale of two halves here. CSU looked like they finally going to a win and break their four game losing streak when they were up 21-7 heading into the half. Ryan Lindley and the Aztecs took to the air for 459 yards and six touchdowns as they roared back with 35 points in the second half to end up winning 42-28. A promising start to the season has been derailed for Rams.

Air Force @ Utah

Past games have been very close and this game didn't disappoint. The Utes had problems all game long with 6 fumbles but only losing two. The Falcons forced a 16-16 tie with a 48 yard field goal that sent the game into overtime. Utah ran for a TD in their first possession of OT then the defense stepped up and smothered the Falcons on a 4th and 2 to earn a hard fought 23-16 victory.

It really doesn't matter who coaches the Lobos - it is the same result. The Lobos are now 0-7 following the 34-17 loss to the Rebels. You never know what will happen but chances are pretty good now that New Mexico will finish with an 0-12 record this season.

TCU has their BCS dreams on the line. A loss here will sink the Horned Frogs and the MWC. The Cougars are looking to return the favor at TCU ruined their season last year.

Max Hall (BYU), Brian Hendricks (Wyoming) and Jeremy Kerley (TCU) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for games through Oct. 17. Hall earns the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Hendricks garners the Defensive Player award and Kerley receives Special Teams recognition. This marks the third player of the week honor for Hall this season (seventh career), while Kerley collects his second (both season and career). It is the first career accolade for Hendricks.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Max Hall accounted for 393 yards of offense and four touchdowns in No. 19 BYU's 38-28 win at San Diego State. Hall completed 27-of-39 attempts for a season-high 346 yards and three touchdowns through the air while adding a career-best 47 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown on the ground. The senior quarterback scored his rushing touchdown as time expired in the first half to give BYU a seven-point lead at the break. Hall connected on two touchdown passes on key third-down plays in the second half to keep the Cougars in front, helping BYU convert 15-of-21 third-down plays in the game overall. The Mesa, Ariz., native spread the ball around to nine different receivers and did not throw an interception for the second straight game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Hendricks forced a fumble and registered a Wyoming single-game record with 23 total tackles (11 solo) in a 10-0 loss at Air Force. The sophomore linebacker's 23 stops, which also tied an MWC single-game record, shattered a Cowboy mark that had stood since 1972 when Frank Erzinger made 21 tackles against New Mexico. Hendricks' biggest stops came midway through the second quarter with Air Force having a first-and-goal at the Wyoming 10-yard line. The Burlington, Colo., product made tackles on both first and second down, then helped the UW defense force a fourth-down incomplete pass to maintain a 0-0 tie going into the half. Hendricks led a Cowboy defensive effort that held the Falcons to a season-low 10 points and just two yards through the air, the second-fewest passing yards in league history. Wyoming also limited Air Force to 269 yards total offense, 90 yards under its season average. Hendricks becomes only the third Cowboy in 113 seasons to record 20 or more tackles in a single game.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jeremy Kerley registered 103 yards on three punt returns with a touchdown in No. 8 TCU's 44-6 win over Colorado State. The junior's 69-yard punt return TD late in the second quarter put the Horned Frogs on top, 17-6, heading into the break. His other two returns also set up TCU scores, accounting for 13 points overall. Kerley, who hails from Hutto, Texas, averaged 34.3 yards per return in the game.

The Aztecs came out and surprised the Cougars with their tough play. This one had the possiblity of being a huge upset before BYU settled down and won their sixth game of the season. The Cougars are also bowl eligibile. BYU 38- SDSU - 28.

Amazing stat: both teams totaled 327 total yards on offense. Bad news is that the Utes put 35 points to the Rebels 15. This game was essentially over in the first half.

New Mexico
The good news is that Lobos achived something they haven't all season: they didn't lose. Unfortunately they had to wait for their bye week to accomplish this feat. When they do face UNLV this weekend they be without head coach Mike Locksley who can been suspended without pay for 10 games for punching WR Coach J.B. Gerald.
